Industry point of view

92% of nonprofits use AI. 7% see real impact. The difference is the boring stuff.

The sector has the tools — what it lacks is foundations. The nonprofits pulling ahead stopped experimenting one staffer at a time and built the unglamorous things first: clean donor data, governed workflows, and a scoreboard the board actually reads.

What we see across the industry

Donor and program data live everywhere: CRM, email tools, event platforms, finance systems — with no unified view of the constituent who appears in all of them. Grant and board reporting is assembled manually each cycle, and impact measurement stays anecdotal because outcome data was never structured.

Funders keep asking for evidence while operations staffing stays thin. And AI adoption is happening anyway — individually, ungoverned, touching donor personal data — which is a privacy incident waiting to happen.

Funding volatility is pushing boards to demand real-time financial and program dashboards instead of quarterly retrospectives. The organizations that can show outcomes in real time win the next grant.

Our experience here

Work we've already done in nonprofits & foundations

OBIS has served mission-driven organizations for years: three AI training engagements for The Tory Burch Foundation's national community of women entrepreneurs (400+ small businesses in a single session), ongoing data and analytics consulting for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and reporting work for community organizations like Rosemary's Babies Co.

The team at OBIS has been an excellent consultant and data analyst for us. They have helped guide us in determining the correct design questions to ask before we attempt any technical builds.
